STI Rates Are Increasing!
Why?
So I did a little research and this is what I found:
* Lack of awareness about STIs in general. No one wants to talk about them.
*Doctors (yup, us) are not doing enough testing.
*In fact, doctors aren't even doing enough TALKING and ASKING our patients about sex, their practices, their sexual networks, or really anything to do about sex.
*Doctors don't want to bring up the subject because it makes us and our patients UNCOMFORTABLE. (But a good case of gonorrhea doesn't?)
*Everyone hates condoms so they are not being used.
*Increased rates of substance abuse.
*Trust for the public health care system is at an all time low.
*There is no money for STI prevention. Hmmm I wonder why? Could it be that we can't even say the word "sex" without it being censored?
I think the solution is easy. Let's talk about sex! Let's normalize testing! Let's vaccinate everyone for HPV and Hepatitis B! Let's make PrEP standard care found in every PCP's office (it's not rocket science)!
AND....
Comprehensive SEX EDUCATION starting BEFORE puberty!
Did you know that STI rates are at an all time high?
Much love and blessings,
